IS YOUR WEBSITE SECURE
Google Chrome users may have noticed a recent Google update that happened at the beginning of October. This update means that anyone using Google Chrome and browsing an http webpage will get a notification that the page is “not secure”. This is big news for anyone with a website!
Potential visitors may very well be put off by this alert that your website is unsafe, resulting in fewer site visits and enquiries. Further down the line Google may very well include this indication in their search analytics algothrim, prioritising websites with an SSL certificate.
So what is an SSL Certificate exactly?
Without going into too much technical detail, SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. Essentially, SSL establishes an encrypted link between your web server and your visitor’s web browser. Chances are if you weren’t running an e-commmerce site, you probably did not have one as they have always been optional, but this has now changed.
Why do I need a SSL Certificate?
Google now believes all pages which require user information should be secure. This is not just for those website taking credit card details, but all websites that require the user to provide information eg. newsletter sign up forms.
